STEREO TV SPACEMAN PROTOTYPE - ALPS BANDAI - JAPAN

ADMINDATA

Tin and plastic battery op robot with TV screen showing a scrolling space scene. White plastic dish antenna.

Featured in the 1970 Alps catalog. The robot on the left is the only known example (currently in the Kitahara collection). On the right is the catalog photo. Had it gone into production this would have been the fourth of the large Alps Bandai robots: Rocket Man, Moon Explorer, Missile Robot and Stereo TV Spaceman.

This robot has the distinctive plastic arms of the Missile Robot, suggesting that the Missile Robot is later than the other two. It has the TV screen from the popular Television Spaceman - perhaps with the famous scrolling space panorama?. The description "stereo" is misleading, but it was a buzz word on the hi-fi circuit at the time.
