RANGER ROBOT - DAIYA/NGS - JAPAN

ADMINDATA

A clear plastic and tin battery operated robot. Clear plastic body on a metal structure. This motor and inner structure are all visible. Walks, arms move, screeching noise and smoke emerges from the mouth. The battery cover is rather delicate and prone to damage: the closing clips fracture and the plastic can craze. Screws have been used in the assembly.

Timeline date: 1965 (Spiegel Catalog 1965)

Two box variations, with and without the Cragstan name and logo. A Cragstan logo and NGS logo can be seen on the left hand box. The right hand box version has the Daiya logo.

The robot often found with yellow ears drooping down (melted into head plastic). Owners need to be aware of the drooping ears problem. The soft yellow plastic of the ears is high in plasticizer. This is a solvent which reacts with the hard clear plastic of the head and effectively melts it. The result is that the ears droop and, over time, will spoil the head. Some collectors remove the ears for storage. A long term solution may be some form of barrier between the components. 27cms
