MR ZEROX - LATER VERSION - HORIKAWA - JAPAN

ADMINDATA

This is a complete reworking of Horikawa's original Mr Zerox. The new version is a small nine inch brown tin and plastic battery operated gear robot. Tinplate body, brown plastic legs, arms and head. The robot has a small version of Attacking Martian head with fly eyes and chrome metal ears. The robot has a lithographed tin chestplate with two clear plastic lighting guns. In action the robot walks forward, the chest plate rattles and the guns fire. Structurally it is very close to the later version of the Engine Robot and the later version Gear Robot: Attacking Martian head, tapered plastic legs and arm pressings. First sighting: Horikawa Catalog 1970 where it is described as a new item.

There are two versions: one has a narrow space between the legs; the other version has a distinctly wider gap. This may have been because of a change in the motor assembly or because of stability problems; it is not yet clear whether the legs were put closer together or further apart. The 1969 Horikawa catalog shows a Radar Robot Space Scout, a similar design, with what looks like narrow legs.
