ROCKATOMIC GUN (ATOM-MATIC DART GUN) - GEORGE BORGFELDT - USA

ADMINDATA

Pressed metal space rifle with an aluminum finish. The gun has futuristic styling, particularly the extended breech of the gun with its small fins. 24.5" (60cm) Silver metal with a short wooden stock. Red painted details.

This gun shoots an unusual whistling dart with a rather complex shape. The dart is centered by the small hole in the cup shaped piece in the barrel. When the mechanism is cocked the dart goes about half way down the flared section of the barrel. When the mechanism is not cocked just the black rubber tubing and suction cup protrude from the barrel.

The version in the advert differs from the actual version shown: it might be a prototype or an early version. The wooden stock is a bit different as is the trigger guard/cocking mechanism. "Each gun packed in attractive colored box."
The gun was featured at the 43rd Toy Fair in New York. The Toledo Blade ran an article in Mar 27 1946. In early advertising the gun is referred to as the "Atom-Matic Dart Gun. Looks like a real gun with wood stock an metal barrel. All come with 2 vacuum cup darts
