OUTER SPACE RAY GUN - TIM-MEE - USA

ADMINDATA

Hard plastic space gun, a battery powered flashlight. The gun has a characteristic hump at the back that contains a "voltage indicator" compass. There is a large lens housing at the end of the finned barrel that contains a set of three color change filters. The gun mold is that of the Norton-Honer Buck Rogers Super Sonic Ray gun, though the wording on the side is now "Laser Ray". The first sighting is in the Sears' Christmas Book for 1958. Black and grey versions with yellow or green lens housings. It would appear that Tim-Mee took over the Norton-Honer molds.

Tim-Mee continued to produce space guns based on this design for many years. The gun subsequently changed its name to Laser Ray Gun and scan still be found in various guises. Here are the main versions:

1. Glued construction, top hump, compass, 2 buttons (1958)
2. Glued construction, long telescopic sight, 2 buttons, clip fit lens assembly (1967)
3. Glued construction, long telescopic sight, paper decal
4. Glued construction, short telescopic sight, paper decal
5. Softer plastic, screw assembly, short telescopic sight, paper decal
