SPACE SHIP X-200 - YANOMAN - JAPANA red and white lithographed tinplate battery operated space vehicle. The vehicle resembles an inflated mattress with long tin fins mounted on the rounded side sections. A tin astronaut pilot sits under a large clear plastic dome and controls a clear plastic lighted gun. At the front is a red dome over a rotating light. X-200 and Space Ship wording on the sides. This version does not have the metal ring antenna. This is a later revision of the original S-17 Space Scout vehicle with a cylindrical red front light instead of the usual white dome, and no metal antenna.

Featured in the 1970 Yanoman catalog where it is described as a new item. The toy pictured i the catalog has the dome shaped light and the metal antenna of the Space Scout and as such may be a photo of a prototype. The late date probably accounts for its rarity.
SPACE SHIP X-8 SCOUTING - TADA - JAPANLithographed tin battery powered vehicle with bump and go action, flashing lights and rotating antenna. This flat, round-nosed vehicle has a large clear plastic dome at the front containing a tin astronaut pilot. There are two large vertical fins at either side of the rear. In the center, behind the dome, is a large cylindrical green plastic flashing light. The start/stop switch is located towards the lower left of the dish. Under the clear plastic dome is a helmeted, goggled space pilot sits behind a conical spring steering wheel. 8.5" long, 8" tall.

Two lithogrpah variations of the X-8 are known:
1. Red and blue litho (top)
2. Red and grey (bottom)
They have the same box art. X 8 X8
SPACE SHIP XY-07 - ATC - JAPANTin friction space helicopter. Tin lithographed spaceship with spaceman under a plastic screen. Tin rotor spins.
This toy was also released as the XZ-7 Space Ship, though this version is more space like with porthole litho. Asahi Japan.
The box art depicts a slightly different piece - the rotor has been replaced by an antenna and the serial number is different.

The XZ-7 appears in the ATC Asahi catalog for 1968

This toy was also released as the XY-07 Space Ship. Asahi Japan. The XZ-7 has a soldier for a pilot and the toy lacks the same space feel.

Again, the box art depicts a slightly different piece - the rotor has been replaced by an antenna and the serial number absent.

SPACE SHOOTING RANGE = AUTOMATIC TOY COMPANY - USATinplate wind up shooting range. Spaceship targets with score values. Automatic Toy Company. Working. Beautiful lithography to toy. SPACE SIGHT SEEING BUS - MASUDAYA - JAPANWhite and blue lithographed tin friction space vehicle. This rather box shaped space car has two long red fins on either side. At the front is a large clear plastic dome containing a tin astronaut driver. Astronaut under clear dome. There are two round plastic lights at the back, red and green. 17cm.

Two versions are known:
Top - Typo on toy: SPACE SIGHT SEEIG BUS
Bottom - Correct spelling, but a non-sparking toy.

This is one of a range of Masudaya vehicles based on the same oblong pressing.
SPACE SLED - REMCO - USAA re-release of Remco's original Gerry Anderson's Supercar design on the back of the Land of the Giants serial. Plastic battery op space ship with wings. Pilot under canopy. White body with clear blue plastic dome. Cams give different movement patterns.
SPACE SURVEY JEEP - TOYMASTER - JAPANBlue lithographed tin friction space jeep with large gun-like telescope. The jeep has a yellow tin astronaut driver. The telescope which has plastic glass on the ends moves side to side as the jeep moves, and lifts up and down manually. Large blue plastic rotating antenna. 7" (17cm) long. Marked "Toymaster Made in Japan."

A newspaper advertisement dates this to October 1960.
SPACE SURVEY X-25 - MASUDAYA - JAPANA boxy light blue lithographed tin battery operated space tank. The tank has an oval tin turret at the front with a short black gun protruding from the front. On top of the turret is a short clear blue plastic column which directs a jet of air at the floating styrofoam ball. Marked Space Survey on the sides and X-25 on the turret. Bump and go action with floating satellite - styrofoam ball. Date?
SPACE TANK - OHTA - JAPANAn unusual design of space tank. This metallic blue tinplate lithographed vehicle has a tracked platform on which are mounted a control panel, a seat without a driver and a large frotating cannon with a green tinted plastic barrel. Tin friction tank with large spring loaded gun that shoots small red balls. Saturn litho detail on the control panel.

SPACE TANK BY-352 - YOSHIYA? - JAPANThis is a rarely seen space toy. The blue tinplate friction space tank is covered with masses of lithographed detail including tracks. There's a clear plastic dome at the front with a green tin astronaut inside. There's an unusual feature at the back: three red plastic strips extend backward from three round spark windows. The serial number on this tank, BY-352, is also odd. This looks like a Yoshiya tank. Box? Better photo? Date?
SPACE TANK M-18 - MASUDAYA - JAPANA metallic blue lithographed battery operated space tank. Lightning stripe on sides. A clear plastic dome at the front contains a red astronaut driver. SPACE TANK ME-091 - CHINAGreen tin friction space tank with bump and go action. Early versions are predominantly metal, later versions have plastic arms and hub caps. The head has flashing light behind red gel. Light show under lens at the rear section with multi-colored patterns flashing. Robby's arms are attached to levers that move when the bump mechanism activates. Loud 'space noise'.

There is also a light blue version of the tank.

SPACE TANK ME-759 - MAKER? - CHINAA rather crude tin lithographed space tank consisting of a flat body with tracks on either side. The tank can run upside down. Battery operated. Date? ME759
SPACE TANK S-100 - MASUDAYA - JAPANThis simple tin friction tank from Masudaya may be small at 5" 12cm, but the company have paid great attention to detail and it's a little gem. A blue and silver lithographed tin space tank with a tin canopy with window and passenger detailing. There's a relatively huge rotating rectangular antenna at the side. Marked S-100 at the front and sides. The box has attractive space graphics. Date? Friction action.

Sold in a boxed version and in a bag with a header card.
SPACE TANK T99 - GAMA - WEST GERMANYBlue lithographed tin battery operated remote control tank. The tank has a forward turret with a clear plastic dome containing an astronaut pilot. A short white gun is mounted on the turret. The remarkable feature of this toy is the fact that it has an opening compartment that contains three small wind up vehicles. White gun barrel. W. Germany No 9939

SPACE TANK WITH SIGNALLING AND SPARKLING - NOMURA - JAPANRed and grey lithographed tin friction tank with large gun at front. There is a fragile clear plastic canopy over a red tin astronaut pilot - he appears to have one leg. Rear red plastic spark window. This uses the low profile pressing that was used for the Super Sonic Tank, and the Space Tank X-4. It has a large rectangular bare metal antenna. The box art does not accurately depict the toy. Marked 6 on the front track cover.

The one-legged pilot and pilot's seat are the same as used on the Nomura Martian Flying Saucer Z-01 Red Man from Space.
SPACE TANK WITH TURNING RADAR V-75 - ALPS - JAPANTin pull string action space tank. Mystery Space Tank with Turning Radar. Distributed by Alps. Box carries a fir tree logo of the manufacturer. The red eliptical antenna is the correct one. V-75 printed at back.
SPACE TANK X-4 WITH SIREN - NOMURA - JAPANTin friction space tank. This uses the low profile pressing that was used for the Super Sonic Tank and the M-101 Tank. the turret looks like one from a military tank toy. Star on turret. Also sold in basic bag with header card.
SPACE TANK X-8 - MASUDAYA - JAPANA small blue lithographed space tank. The friction space tank has a small turret with litho of a cockpit and driver. A spinner is attached to the front of the tank: forward motion launches spinner. Marked Space Tank X-8. 6.5 ins. Box? Date?

SPACE TV UNIT, SINGLE LENS VERSION - NOMURA - JAPANThis is an impressive space toy consisting of a metallic blue tracked vehicle with a large TV camera mounted on top. A green astronaut with a clear plastic helmet sits at the controls. Battery operated, mystery action, rotating antenna, flashing lights.

This is the rarer variation of the Mobile Space TV Unit. The main differentiating features are:
The driver is a green astronaut with plastic helmet, the camera has one lens and its support is much thicker, the tracked base is much deeper, there is a serial number A196X on the seat, and the trailer is different.

This version appears in the Nomura Catalog 1961.

SUPER GIANT SPACE MOTORCYCLE - BANDAI - JAPANMetallic blue lithographed tin friction motorcycle. Circa 1950's. Advances with engine noise. Motorbike. Red plastic rider with a white vinyl cape. Saturn graphic on side. The tail has a red plastic spark cone and a spark window along side. There is a small rotating dish antenna above the front wheel. A working compass is mounted between the handlebars. This is a variation of the Space Patrol Super Cycle and probably came in the same box.

SUPER ROBOT SPACE TANK - HORIKAWA - JAPANAn space tank from Horikawa, the only space tank that they made. Lithographed tin tank with elaborate tracks printed on the sides. There is a robot head peeping out of a small turret at the rear. In front of him is a double barrelled pom pom gun that moves up and down. The guns move in and out as the tank rolls forward. 22cm Rapid fire dual barrel guns. Marked Super Robot on the tank, though the box has only "Space Tank" wording.

The head is like the spring coil antenna square head of the Easelback robots.

There are at least three versions: light blue/grey, dark blue and green.
SUPER SPACE PATROL, MARS 107 - NOMURA - JAPANThis is a large tin battery operated space ship. The red and grey rocket has a boxy shape with a rounded nose. At the front is a large double barrelled pop-pom gun. At the back are two fins. There is a long metal on-off switch.

This is a pilotless vehicle. Mystery action with swivelling firing guns. Mars-107 The box art is misleading in that it depicts a much more sophiscticated vehicle.

This pressing also forms the basis of the Nomura Sky Patrol and the Yonezawa Sonar Space Patrol

Pictured in the 1962 catalog of the 1st Japan International Toy Fair, but with the addition of US Navy wording on the sides.

TARGET TANK X-75 - ASAKUSA - JAPANMetallic blue lithographed tinplate space tank. Conventional shape with a long gun barrel attached to the turret. The gun can be retracted into the turret. Red windows on either side of a turret that hinges upward; a red bulb is positioned below. A large tin target is attached to a hinged flap behind the turret. Battery operated bump and go action, the turret moves and flashes with a shooting noise. A pistol is provided to shoots darts at the tank. When the target is hit the turret is thrown upward. No maker's logo on toy or box. This toy appears in an exporter's magaziner dated 1964 and is attributed to the Taiyo Tekkin Company.

UNIT 5 AREA RADIATION TESTER - BANDAI FOR SEARS - JAPANA large red painted pressed steel sled-like toy. This battery operated vehicle has opening cargo doors and raising gantry. Sold exclusively by Sears. Working. When in operation, space vehicle runs with mystery action while two lights on rear illuminates. Next the vehicle stops, the back canopy opens, armature with a radar detector raises up, and smoke is emitted from the back of the canopy. The scale of the toy is designed to create the impression of a massive vehicle. 50cm

"Guns revolve and fire, headlight flashes. Vehicle steers right or left." Marked SPACE TANK EXPLORER on the toy.

This was released in 1958. It appears in the Sears Chritmas Book for that year described as Armored Car, and in 1959 as Futuristic Armored Car. The remote control carries the Linemar logo but we do not yet have the maker's name. The art work gives the tank the X-5 wording but this is not present on the toy. It also features a large dinosaur, a stegosaurus. In fact, the artwork bears only a passing resemblance to the actual toy.

Compare with the AHI Space Explorer Tank, a one astronaut version, and Space Tank, the two pilot version.

A white dome is mounted in the middle. Pilot under a clear doma at the front. Battery operated bump and go action with rotating antenna and colored lights in the dome. 32cm The Urauto has only been seen in shades of red.

A much copied space toy. There is a great diversity of packaging.

UZAY TANKI UZ TANK 707 - NE-KUR - TURKEYThe UZ is short for Uzay or "Space". Blue tin hovercraft style battery op vehicle with turret. Bump and go action. Red plastic exhaust pipes. The body is the same as used on the Flash Space Patrol Z-206 though the propeller has been replaced by a red light.

There is another Turkish variation of the 707 with a propeller. The same box seems to have been used for both versions.

There is a boxed version with an N in a circle logo (Nippon Kogei). The tank was also sold in a plastic bag with a header card marked Texas Toys 39c. Header card marked "Crow Wholesale Distributing Company, Kilgore"
