DALEK OUTFIT - SCORPION AUTOS - ENGLANDBlue and silver vinyl Dalek playsuit with arm pieces. The plastic head with an eye stalk that incorporates a flashing. The head incorporates accurate louvres. This was available from Scorpion Automotives in the 1964, though numbers were (allegedly) limited by a factory fire.

DAN DARE RADIO STATION - MERIT - ENGLANDBased on the Remco Radio Station. This is a large plastic battery-operated radio station with large towers on either side. A working searchlight sits between them. In the center is a meter with moving needle and on either side are dials. Morse buzzer at the bottom right, and notepad on the left.

The set came with two electrically operated walkie talky handsets, Black and red versions of the handsets are known. Remco QX-2 design with three additional decorative buttons.

Two box versions are known. The earlier (top) is closer to the Remco original. The later (bottom) version uses brighter colors. This well-packed toy survives in large numbers.

DAN DARE SPACE PATROL PLANE - WELLS BRIMTOY? - ENGLANDA brightly lithographed red tinplate airplane with detachable wing. Friction action with spark. Plastic propeller.

Though the plane does not have Dan Dare wording Space Patrol is printed on the wings. The litho in the cockpit depicts characters clearly intended to be Dan Dare in RAF uniform. Box. Maker not established but likely to be Wells Brimtoy or possibly Mettoy. 35cm. Date? Box?

DAN DARE WALKIE-TALKIE SET - MERIT - ENGLANDMerit England, plastic electronic walkie talkie set. Black and red plastic handsets with three function buttons. The devices are claimed to work using "magnetic power" not batteries. Set No Set No 3100. Red versions with black trim are also known, but are less common. A Morse code card was also included.

Remco QX-2 design with three additional decorative buttons.

Advertised in the Meccano Magazine May 1954.

Merit was the trading name of J & L Randall.

DISTANT EARLY WARNING RADAR STATION - MASUDAYA - JAPANA large grey-black lithographed tinplate battery operated tracking station. It has the usual Masudaya rotating plastic antenna and the pylon tower with the flashing light and Morse sound. The novelty feature of this toy is its attempt to recreate a radar cathode ray tube.

One of the four Masudaya space toys using this distinctive pressing.

СПУТНИК SPUTNIK MUSIC BOX - MAKER? - USSRBlue lithographed tinplate wind up musical box with space scenes. The tin box has a globe set into front with a channel surrounding it. A miniature space capsule orbits when a top lever is pulled. Makes a simple rhythmic plink-plonk noise. Russia. The toy has beautiful fantastical lithography drawn from Russian folklore: witches on broomsticks, people flying on birds etc. USSR, Eastern Europe.

It is possible that the graphics relate to a 1956 Russian film called Старик Хоттабыч a fantasy comedy film produced in the USSR by Lenfilm in 1956 based on a children's book of the same name by Lazar Lagin. Leaflets included with the toy date this to 1961.

ESTACION ESPACIAL SPACE STATION - GOFAR - SPAINA most unusual battery operated tin and metal space toy consisting of a 48cm cast metal rocket which acts as a central turret. A bar is suspended from the turret with a plane at one end and a counterweight at the other. A battery control box allows the plane to circle at variable speed. The box art is particularly attractive. Manufactured by Gofar Producciones SA Valencia.

It is possible that those toy companies, Schopper/Fuchs/Seidel, changed toy parts, not unusual for German toy producers. 5" 12cm tall.

The Sputnik association dates this to c1958.

HELICOPTER ME-632 - CHINAThis is a dark blue lithographed tinplate battery operated space helicopter. This unusual spaceship is a flying wing, with two large helicopter rotors. The brightly lithographed ship has a picture of itself in flight. Two plastic structures hold the rotors and there is a forward plastic control center with two pilots. The spaceship has a two stage action: first it advances with spinning rotors and flashing lights, then it stops and two flaps on the wing open to reveal litho characters beneath. The box has an illustration of the toy flying through space. ME632 ME 632

JET MORGAN SPACE SUIT - MERIT - ENGLANDBased on the BBC Radio serial "Journey Into Space", this Jet Morgan vinyls suit comprises jacket, trousers, gloves and helmet. Two versions shown, one being harder wearing than the other. c1956 Merit Toys.

The radio series aired in 1953 and again in 1955. The first advert for the suit I can locate is 1958.
