Joe K.
Yes, yes, I know. Astro Base has already been TIMELINE dated to 1960 in a Sears Christmas Catalog. But, I just couldn't resist this full color picture of the toy in this catalog imprinted with the Bickels store name from Logansport, Indiana. Here's the main auction site:http://cgi.ebay.com/1960-TOY-CATALOG-IN-CO...1QQcmdZViewItemAnd the specific page:http://i7.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/e3/d5/e7_12_sb.JPG
Fineas J. Whoopie
Until I saw the TV commercial for this toy I didn't realize how involved the actions are, with the astronaut that is lowered down into the vehicle which is a remote control toy all on it's own. This must be a difficult one to find MIB with all accessories intact.
gernot
Most interesting for robot collectors who own an Alps Rocket Man witout Rockets: The rockets of the Astro base (vehicle with rockets) are identical to the Rockets on the Rocket Man !!! Joe K.
I wonder if they're the same rockets used for Ideal's Robot Commando (1961)?

Tinplate6
I actually had one of these as a kid. It was very impressive in size and had all the bells and whistles. It was neat how the door opened and the crane extended out, really cool toy. ^_^ Here are some webshots...
