Tinplate6
I recently won the neat little cereal premium...it is a climbing spaceman, offered by Malt-O-Meal, I’m guessing it is late 40’s- 50’s. This figure is strung on a string, with a plastic ring at either end. The figure is jointed at the shoulders and hips. He is nicely detailed for such a flat figure; complete with a rocket pack, and an amazing tiny bubble helmet. When you pull both ends of the string, he will shimmy up the line like a Marine. The only markings are the words “Hong Kong” molded into his belt. If anyone has any information on these, please let me know.
space.trucks
Wild! and I love the bubble helmet. Very atom age. Great score!

Tinplate6
Thanks guys. Now I just need to know some background information on it.
Brian..
I've seen it advertised as a vending machine toy. If it's Hong Kong it's likely to be 1960s.
Tinplate6
Brian, is it possible that after it was offered as a cereal premium, the leftover stock was repackaged? Or, the person selling it, made up the whole Malt-O-Meal storyline.
Joe K.
I haven't found the climbing astronaut offered by Malt-O-Meal, yet. But they did have flying space ships inside the boxes: as found here: http://www.theimaginaryworld.com/fod3.html
Brian..
To me, the packaging looks like a cereal premium offering.
