Brian..
What's the deal with this tiny (4cm) plastic flying saucer, the Kiddy Fliegende Untertasse? What's the story and why is the guy asking nearly $100?
Tinplate6
Because he can, I suppose. I've not seen that one, attractive as it is, however, I have seen lots of unreasonably high asking prices for some auction items that aren't nearly worth the price. Then again, who knows, it might just be rare as hen's teeth.
Blechroboter
Voila, here are the results of the Blechroboter Research. The Kiddy Kaugummi (Chewing Gum) Company exists in 1950s and 60s in Cologne, Germany and Salzburg, Austria. They distributed their chewing gums in Germany and Austria and perhaps Swiss together with trading cards.Subjects were Wild West (Karl May), Movie Stars, From Viking Ship to Jet Aircraft and FIFA World Cup 1954 (football). In their last years they distributed the well known Bozooka Gum from Topps Company, USA. When business stopped, Bazooka Gum was distributed in early 70s by Cand-Import Nürnberg with the trademark Plong Bubble Gum. See also http://blechroboter.de/images/astronautenhoeflerplong1.seriedetail.jpgThe flying saucer is another promotional item probably. Guess it works like a spinning top. Diameter is 4,8cm.Guess were are only a few specialised chewing gum or promotional items collectors, which are interested in such a rare thing like this saucer. JC Carbonel
The general appearance of the vehicle (defined engine pods, fan-like disc, bulbous center) plus its origin (Germany) suggests to me the "V-7" or "Flugkreisel" , the mythological Nazi saucer https://i.pinimg.com/originals/69/67/5a/69675aeb1113edb72e46330f6d787e3c.jpg JCC
